INTERTANGO

It is the first moment of touch, the breathless tension, the opening of a dialogue without words – it is tango. The four protagonists of the film come from different countries – Russia, Japan, Argentina and Pakistan – and live for and with the tango they got to know in Buenos Aires and carry it out into the world – all the way to Pakistan. The documentary gives an intimate insight into the tango life of the protagonists and regards tango as an inter-cultural phenomenon, as a great opportunity to overcome cultural barriers.
Tango can strike everyone – no matter which culture you come from.
NAOKO
Naoko from Japan made this experience. She visited Buenos Aires because of Tango and didn’t manage to leave in time why she lost her job in the US. A catastrophe and at the same time a big chance. Naoko moved to Buenos Aires and got especially interested in Tango music. Slowly but surely – in her modest Japanese way – she conquered a men dominated position in Tango: she became a Tango DJ. It took a while till Naoko found the courage to put herself on stage and became officially resident DJ at Tangocool Villa Malcolm. This way of public appearance contradicts Naoko’s character and mentality. But Naoko took her chance and through Tango she is achieving a very new self confidence. Nowadays Noako works as an international DJ and travels around the world.
So ist es Naoko ergangen: sie hat Buenos Aires besucht, um mehr über den Tango zu erfahren, die Abreise immer wieder hinausgeschoben und ihren Job in den USA verloren. Eine Katastrophe und gleichzeitig eine Chance. Naoko blieb in Buenos Aires, begann Tango zu tanzen und sich für Tango Musik zu interessieren.
IFTIKHAR SHALLWANI
Also Ifthikar , born in Pakistan, got addicted to Tango. He worked in Buenos Aires as financial counselor at the Pakistani Embassy. Of course he is still full of respect for the religion and cultural rules of his home country but on the other hand he couldn’t resist to go out every night and dance Tango. Meanwhile he lives a double life as he says himself. During the day he follows conscientiously the duties of his job, but during the night he submerges into the seducing world of Tango. After returning to his home country Iftikhar missed Tango so much that he started to teach Tango in Karachi.
Auch Iftikhar , der in Pakistan geboren wurde und für die Pakistanische Botschaft in Buenos Aires arbeitete, ist vom Tango „infiziert“. Ohne Frage fühlt er sich der Religion und Kultur seines Heimatlandes verpflichtet, aber Tango ist eine Versuchung, der er nicht widerstehen kann. Jede Nacht ging er in BA zum Tango tanzen und hat – wie er selbst sagt – ein Doppelleben geführt. Während des Tages bewegte sich Iftikhar in der Welt der Industriebosse und Politiker, der gehobenen Gesellschaft von Buenos Aires. Doch in der Nacht tauchte er ab in die verführerische Welt des Tangos. – Die ihn bis heute nicht mehr loslässt. Weshalb er nach der Rückkehr in sein Heimatland angefangen hat in Karachi Tango zu unterrichten.
MILA VIGDOROVA
Mila Vigdorova from Moscow started to dance tango twenty years ago when tango came in fashion in Russia. She became a professional dancer and is running her own tango school in Moscow. Mila’s tango passion stands in drastic opposition to her life dream of having a family. She found out: Tango is her life, but this is not always healthy! How can Tango be combined with her family plans? – For Mila a conflict almost impossible to solve?
Mila Vigdorova aus Moskau hat vor zwanzig Jahren begonnen Tango zu tanzen, als Tango in Russland in Mode kam. Längst hat sie ein professionelles Tanzniveau erreicht, tritt auf und unterrichtet. Milas Leidenschaft für den Tango steht im krassen Widerspruch zu ihrem tief gehegten Wunsch, eine Familie zu gründen. Mila weiß: Tango ist ihr Leben! – „Was nicht immer gesund ist!“ Aber wie kann Mila die Hingabe an den Tango mit ihrem Kinderwunsch in Einklang bringen? – ein fast unlösbarer Konflikt?
RODRIGO FONTI
Rodrigo Fonti from Neuquen, Patagonia represents the young argentine tango dancer generation. He came to Buenos Aires especially to develop in Tango. To survive he works as a Tango teacher, performs in milongas and he is also member of an independent dance company. Rodrigo sees himself in the state of “research”. Which means: he is trying out different dance partners one of them is Mila – who decided to take him to Russia! Rodrigo started his first 6 month long trip to Europe and made a lot of surprising experiences – but he also missed a lot his friends in Argentina.
Rodrigo Fonti aus Neuquen steht für die junge argentinische Tänzer Generation. In Buenos Aires hat er sich tänzerisch weiter entwickelt. Um zu überleben, gibt Rodrigo Unterricht, tritt in Milongas auf und tanzt in einer unabhängigen Tango Kompanie. Rodrigo hat seinen künstlerischen Weg noch nicht endgültig gefunden und tanzt mit verschiedenen Partnerinnen. Eine davon ist Mila, die ihn zur gemeinsamen Arbeit nach Moskau eingeladen hat. Es ist Rodrigos erste Reise nach Europa. Für ein halbes Jahr war Rodrigo unterwegs und hat überraschende und interessante Erfahrungen gemacht – aber auch seine Freunde in Argentinien vermisst.
